Interesting [Dec. 2nd, 2009|03:55 am]

It seems that Bestbuy and Futureshop are the Mcdonalds of IT jobs these days.

I was talking to a graduate of my program who came in to have some warranty work done on a PC be bought at the college a while ago (there was one month left on the warranty) and he was bitching that he still doesn't have a /real/ job and how he's still working at Bestbuy(as a tech/repair guy).

I didn't think it was so bad until he told me that he's getting a raise soon that will put him at almost exactly half what I make an hour..
I made him feel better and lied to him, telling him I only make 20 an hour >.> I do feel for him though, he's got a kid coming and a house to pay for and he's stuck getting just barely above minimum for quite a lot of work.

As for the work I do, progress has started on getting my pay re-classified, the core point rating system puts me at 3 pay bands higher than I am in(extra 8$ an hour), I will try for 3, but hope for at least 2($5/hr more).. and be annoyed if it's 1($2.5/hr) :P
Though I have been told there's no way that it will get re-classified to the same pay band due to overwhelming evidence to the contrary of what they /think/ the work I do is.
On a bright note, since we are doing the grievance the "long" way, we get retroactive pay(and interest) all the way back to hire date, nearly 2 years for me :D
Enough rambling, sleep now!

Gosford Rental - Best time to look? [Dec. 1st, 2009|08:17 am]

sydneysiders

[foxsyd]

I want to rent a 2 bedroom apartment in the Gosford area. It's been suggested to me that the prices might be lower after the summer holiday period, because everyone wants to be by the beach so to speak around that period.

So maybe I should wait till Feb to flat hunt.. Is that a sound theory?

On my hunt for free wifi, I found that all branches of the City of Sydney library are wifi hotspots for any member of the public. Link has locations and branch opening hours. http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/Library/Branches/ Also the park on the corner of Glebe pt rd and St Johns Rd in Glebe is a free hotspot from 5am to 7pm, 7 days.

[Current Location |225 George Street Sydney 2000]

This post brought to you by Time Out Sydney...

Oxford Art Market

Within the walls of Oxford Street's indie-art-institution you'll find an art market showcasing both established and emerging Sydney artists. It's an affordable approach to art collecting.
Oxford Art Factory, Darlinghurst. First Saturday of the month, 11am5pm.

Marly Markets
The Marly Markets sprawls across two levels of the Marlborough Hotel – Newtown's student drinking institution – with the suburb's colourful designers, artists and fashionistas manning the stalls.
The Marlborough Hotel, Newtown. First Saturday of every month, 12pm–4pm
.

Radio Social
The latest brainchild of the FBi fundraising team is a Sunday evening drinking/shopping/listening/eating affair at The World Bar. The bar will be transformed into a fashion bazaar packed with designs from Spunky Bruiser, I Love Dust, Barney, Heartbreaker, and many more. Live bands and DJs will provide a shopping soundscape and might even inspire a perusal of Kato's record stall. There will be a barbecue and the usual teapots for sustenance and all proceeds from the door and a percentage from the bar are going towards saving FBi.
The World Bar, Kings Cross. Every Sunday, 3-8pm, $5.

Fringe Bar Markets
This weekly market focuses on vintage fashions, up-and-coming designers and pre-loved threads with prices considerably below those found within the surrounding boutiques.
Fringe Bar, Paddington.
Every Saturday, 10am–5pm.

Annandale Pub Markets
The Annandale's monthly market coincides with Pub Cha, their "yum cha with a twist", so you can beat your Friday night hangover with a pork bun, a vintage frock, a handful of records and a pre-loved copy of Catcher in the Rye.
Annandale Hotel, Annandale. Third Saturday of each month, 10am–3pm
.

I have a day off today and I want to go see a movie. Is popcorn and drink included with gold class ticket at the Event cinemas? I know reading cinemas does include this in the price of gold class ticket. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

New beginnings... [Nov. 30th, 2009|11:32 am]

Speaking of new beginnings, V has started again. Awesome show, and I think I'll be following it for a while. I wonder if they'll be using the red dust again...

So this month, I have managed to already put $600 into savings. What a difference a single person makes. All bills paid, and still have savings.

sooo hungry, must go eat...

Places to show a Parisian [Nov. 28th, 2009|04:37 pm]

sydneysiders

[laurelleaf]
I'm showing a friend of mine around this fine city from 9th-12th December.
Can anyone suggest the best places to sip cocktails and admire a beautiful view, the best places to have a delicious dinner, the most undergroundy hip bars? I've only been here a few months myself.
So, basically, anything that one must absolutely see in Sydney if one is to completely fall in love with this city.

Thankyou!

Any recommendations for carpet cleaners in the Gladesville area? I'm not moving, just wanting my loungeroom and bedrooms done.

Has anyone had experience with the 'dry' kind of carpet cleaning?

Hey guys,
I have 3 tix to see Tim Minchin next Saturday if anyone wants them.
$50 each which is sale price.
It's at the State Theatre and second row so good seats.

Turns out it's a show I've already seen so I can guarantee it's funny!

Can anyone recommend decent driving instructors in Newtown or surrounding areas. I've had some bad experiences with shonkey driving instructors so any advice on who to see and who to avoid would be great.

[Current Mood | hopeful]

I'm looking for shops which sell swimwear in larger cup sizes (eg: DD/E/F). They need to be accessible by public transport, preferably in the city/Eastern Suburbs or between the city and Liverpool (I'm headed out there on Friday). That's about it. :)

Just woke up after... 10 hours of sleep or so XD
I feel great.. finally. I was sick for most of Sunday at MFF with upset stomach.
Probably a mix of lack of sleep, lack of proper fooding and too much excitement occurring.

I have a good hour worth of video from the con that needs editing and posting, this should be done sometime soonish, I want to post a bit after work, I could do some editing while at work but I don't know how ridiculously busy it's going to be.

Also, those who didn't know, the Krystal and Starfox at the con was Cassie and myself.. apparently there are pics of us up everywhere but I can't find any to show :P
